While our biggest concerns with regards to the maintenance of healthy, glowing, moisturized skin usually arise towards winter time it is important to remember that each season comes with its own trails against our skin and that we should always be ready to fight back.

Although we have not fully stepped into the season of summer, the spring sun has risen and shown us that it too is capable of bringing the heat. Yes we all love a warm sunny day but more often than not we tend to forget the effect that heat has on our skin, which is why I am here today to remind you as well as myself of a few tricks to keeping your skin healthy while still enjoying summer.

In winter one of our biggest worries is that the cold dry air will result in dry cracked skin however we forget that the summer sun tends to dry out our skin (and lotion too) so it is important to keep moisturized and to keep your skin hydrated to avoid cracking and dryness. Here are my top 5 tricks to keeping your skin glowing and healthy this summer

1. Exfoliate Our skin sheds an excessive amount of dead skin cells on a daily basis and it is important that we remove them or else they will stay on our skin causing it to appear dry. By exfoliating you not only remove the dead skin cells but you allow for fresh cells to "take over", resulting in healthier skin. You can exfoliate with a loofah or body scrubbing brush and if you're feeling a little extra you can even add some exfoliating gel.

2. Moisturize We often tend to think that because of the heat, moisturizing or over moisturizing, will result in us becoming very sweaty but in reality, the intense heat rays from the sun often cause our skin to dry up too, and dry skin plus the hot sun resting on you is not such a great feeling. I would recommend using lotions that have added oils such as tissue oil or coconut oil as they will keep your skin hydrated for longer. or even try adding some baby oil to your creams. I personally use lotions and shower gels that are rich in oils as this provides good long lasting hydration for the skin especially on my face as it really keeps is moisturized throughout the day. You can also try out some lotions with coco butter as that works well for me too especially in summer, but shop around and see what your skin likes.

3. Keep Hydrated You have heard this song a million times before and I will sing it again, MAKE WATER YOUR BEST FRIEND! Always keep a bottle of water on you especially in summer. Not only does it keep you hydrated but it keeps your skin hydrated too! there is absolutely nothing bad that can come from drinking water on a daily, even hourly basis, so do it !

4. Use Sun Screen This one is pretty much self explanatory. As much as we need a good dose of vitamin D, too much of a good thing can be a bad thing and that especially goes for the sun. Always make sure to apply some sun screen , whether you infuse it with your lotion or buy lotion that already has SPF in it , make sure that your skin is protected from the harmful rays of the sun.

5. Eat Lots Of Fruit.

Not only are fruits the sweets of nature but they are supper good for your skin too, so try your best to always have a fruit at hand. You know what they say, an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Some fruits that are really good for your skin include; avocados, as they promote cell regeneration and growth, bananas as they moisturize and hydrate your skin and lemons which naturally lighten and tighten skin amongst many other fruits. So eat up.

Take care of your skin this summer so that you can also have that natural 'Golden Hour' glow 24/7. :)
