Vogue. The home of fashion, a powerhouse and to many, like me, the destination in which dreams reside. For many creatives in the field of fashion there is no dream bigger than having your hard work and talents showcased for the world see. Whether your are an aspiring fashion designer, supermodel, photographer or writer we all want to make it big and kick ass in our various fields, and nothing says "Mama I made it!" better than a feature on the cover of Vogue! While some may see that as an unattainable goal the rest of us know better than to let the size of our dreams stop us from achieving what we want. I mean what's the point in dreaming if you wont do it big?

Dreaming big these days has been challenging due to all that has been happening around the world. Finding the motivation and inspiration to create content has proven to be even more challenging than before as many of us adjust to working from home due to lock down regulations. Creating is no walk in the park especially when you are confined to the same four walls every day. However, all it takes is a small glimmer of light to get the fire going and boy did it GO! Over the past few days it’s been nearly impossible to scroll through any social media platform without seeing the hashtag #Voguechallenge and I have personally loved to see it ! Creatives from around the world showcasing their sheer talent and proving that the sky is the limit .

I could not help but feel inspired by all the talent. I felt an incredible sense of pride towards all the amazing art produced by black creatives. During times like this it is has been extremely difficult to feel any kind of joy as you read about all the horrific things happening around the world more specifically to black people. Seeing the beauty of black lives displayed through their work gave me a chilling sense of gratitude and Joy in knowing what black people are capable of, even when the world seems to be against us.

We marveled at the beauty of all the Vogue cover creations as well as the creations of those who chose to pay homage to black centered publications such as essence and some of our homegrown South African magazines, such as True Love, Bona & Drum.

And while some may dream of being Cover girls, or boys, some of our dreams lie within the pages of our favorite magazines.

let a girl dream will you!

When all is said and done, the world would be missing a lot of beauty in it if it were not for the amazing contributions that have come from black lives and black culture!
