My Homemade Lip Scrub

Updated: Nov 16, 2022

Like many , I love to have really soft moisturized lips but this isn't always easy to attain. Sometimes lip products dont last as long as you'd like them to and you have to constantly keep reapplying them and before you know it you're back at the store buying another lip balm. I personally find your usual application of petroleum jelly to not be as effective as all it really does it give your lips a shine as opposed to keeping your lips actually moisturized for a long period of time. My student budget caught up to me yet again and I found myself not being able to prioritize my favourite lip applicator into my monthly spending. So after weeks of using that darn petroleum jelly I got fed up and decided to ask my good old friend google for help and as usual she turned out to be very useful. I got a recipe for a homemade lip scrub and decided to try it out and the results so far have made me happy so I decided to share.

What you will need:

Brown Sugar

(Which contains anti-bacterial properties)

White sugar (however I used xylitol)

White Sugar: Draws moisture into the skin and can help with sun damaged skin. I used Xylitol, which is a natural sweetener instead of white sugar only because we dont have white sugar at home, lol.

Olive Oil

Has regenerative powers to help stimulate the healing of skin.

& Honey

Is generally filled with tons of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and also absorbs moisture in the skin.

An Empty Container

to add all your ingredients into.

the contents amount depends on the size of your container but I generally used 1 and a half teaspoons for each ingredient. Once mixed, leave to set for a bit (I put mine in the fridge). And there you have it your very own lip exfoliator.

When applying, just rub some onto your lips and leave it on for about 5 minutes then scrub with your toothbrush and rinse off. You can add lip balm on after or just leave it as is, but you will almost instantly feel the difference in softer , more moisturized lips. So save some money and gain some soft lips this summer. :)
